--About the Original Painting and the View--
"The original painting was done in oil paint on stretched canvas. I hiked up Mount Tom in a beautiful, warm day in October 2024 and began this painting on-site, hiking back down with the wet painting in the dark! I finished the painting at home in November 2024. This view is from the glorious Metacomet-Monadnock Trail (M&M Trail), which traverses the top of the cliffs along the Holyoke/Easthampton border."
Sophie Theroux is an "en plein air" painter in Western Massachusetts. She works in oils and most of her paintings feature the Pioneer Valley. "I grew up in the woods in Leeds gallivanting around the mountains and swimming in the Mill River. It was so awe-inspiring and I remember being so captivated by it. I was drawn to paint it so that I could have some way to respond to how beautiful it looked."
